HOW YOU CAN HELP

VOLUNTEER

Padstow and District Community Transport welcomes volunteers. In particular, we are always seeking volunteer drivers, but if driving is not for you we welcome anyone who would be interested in acting as a chaperone on the Minibus, offering administration support, updating social media or helping maintain the Minibus. No formal qualifications or prior experience are required and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds who have an enthusiasm to engage with the users of the Minibus - elderly and vulnerable members of the community, school groups, sporting clubs etc.

Your commitment is as little or as much time you can spare. All volunteers are required to complete an application form to include references and a DBS certificate (processed by PDCT).

Volunteer drivers must:

- be 25 years of age and have held a driving licence for two years.
- consent to a driving licence check.
- declare any health issues that may prevent them from driving.

PDCT offers:

- familiarisation to operate and drive the minibus.
- support to ensure volunteers feel confident driving.

Please register your interest via the contact form. We look forward to hearing from you.

Here is some feedback from our drivers:

  • “I didn’t realise how much satisfaction I would get from driving the Minibus. Providing transport for the elderly and vulnerable in our community is so rewarding. In so many cases it provides people with their only form of entertainment, fun and communication with others and the appreciation they show is heart warming. Please support this important and vital service”

  • “I have been a volunteer driver for the Padstow minibus for about 6 years. It is not onerous and it is good fun.
A company runs the minibus and one of the directors does the drivers’ rota well in advance. That way we all know who is doing what and when. There is a group of volunteer drivers and so I end up driving about twice a month.
Another director is responsible for the bus maintenance. So all we have to do is turn up and drive.
Each group that we take out provides a “chaperone” who looks after the passengers.
The groups generally consist of the elderly who go out rarely during the week. So they are delighted when we call to pick them up and enjoy the ”craic” with their friends on the bus on the way to and from their venue for the day. Their chitter chatter makes me smile. They always have some good tales to tell. So, if you can spare a bit of time, do become a volunteer driver with the Padstow minibus. You will find it a rewarding experience.”

  • “The day each month I spend driving the Padstow community minibus is a great joy. The wonderful people we pick up and deliver to OASIS really appreciate the work of the charity and we enjoy the banter, wisdom and positivity of a great bunch of people”
